An Evening With His Wife and Biographer, Patricia Ward Kelly
The Legendary Innovator
Up close and personal
Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain

About the show

Biographer and film historian Patricia Ward Kelly takes audiences behind the scenes and shares an intimate story of her late husband Gene Kelly, the man who helped create some of the most memorable scenes in film history. This unique, live performance—praised as “a real treat” by Variety—combines rare and familiar film clips, never released audio recordings, memorabilia, and personal insights culled from hours of interviews with her husband. Mrs. Kelly, whose presentation has been described as “mesmerizing,” reveals a very personal side of this American legend and his perspective on the innovative work for which he wished to be remembered.

Testimonials

…truly personal—a rarity in tributes like these. I felt privileged to be there.

-Leonard Maltin, Film Historian

…I could see the whole thing all over again right now. It was great, great, great. THANK YOU.

-Angie Dickenson, Award-Winning Actress

Trenchant as well as endearingly entertaining, Gene Kellyʼs widow and biographer mixes carefully curated film and audio clips with illuminating personal memories and thoughtful commentary.

-Myron Meisel, Film Critic

Patricia creates an evening more than two hours long that feels like 25 minutes. A combination of biography (hers and Gene’s, and as a couple), film clips, anecdotes, and observations – assembled with such erudition and skill that I’m sure no one in the audience ever really notices that it is her careful and scholarly craft that makes her “chat” feel at the end of the evening that they really know Gene as a person. If you ever have a chance to see this, it’s simply a MUST

-Jeff Kurtti, Disney Historian and Author

Press

You can feel the respect and adoration Patricia imparts with each word she speaks about him, and the two-hour and twenty minute length of the show, which she wrote herself, feels like it just floated by as we were so enthralled and engaged in every moment.”

Broadway World

It honors his desire to be remembered not just as a dancer, but also as a singer, an actor and especially a director who advanced the filming of dance.”

The New York Times

…Patricia has selected the components of her show with a deep sense of construction, layering and balancing the many facets of Gene’s talents and inspirations with an attentive care”
